Collection: Medieval Theatre Backstage

The Medieval Theatre Backstage reveals a rarely seen side of the stage, a richly detailed, behind-the-scenes world steeped in theatrical history. Set against textured Tudor-style walls, the space is filled with remnants of past productions: weathered flats lean casually against the rear wall, barrels and ladders sit tucked into corners, and a heavy, timeworn drape hangs as if it has remained undisturbed for decades. On the back wall, a simple stage door marks the point of entry for actors and crew, grounding the scene in the working life of the theatre.

Lit by clusters of candles and medieval lanterns, the environment is moody, atmospheric, and full of character. It captures the essence of a space never intended for the audience’s eyes, yet deeply familiar to anyone who has spent time backstage.

Originally designed for the opening prologue of & Juliet, this scene playfully blends historical influences, drawing inspiration from Tudor architecture and iconic theatrical spaces such as the Globe Theatre, while ultimately reflecting the structure of a proscenium arch stage. This fusion of styles gives the scene a unique theatrical quality, making it adaptable for a wide range of productions that explore performance, storytelling, or the world behind the curtain.
