Killing a Disney Villain

Killing a Disney Villain

How do you kill off a Disney villain on stage without putting your cast in danger? In this behind-the-scenes video, I take you inside the design process for Gaston’s dramatic fall in Beauty and the Beast.

From rethinking the set layout, to using flying buttresses as visual clues, to storm animation, fork lightning, and even experimenting with real gravity simulations - this was one of the most complex and rewarding scenes I’ve ever built. The goal was simple: create a moment that feels thrilling and cinematic, but is 100% safe for the performers on stage.

This is what happens when stagecraft, visual effects, and a little After Effects magic collide.
