This special-effect animation was originally designed for the Entr’acte of Beauty and the Beast, serving as the lead-in to the wolf chase. As the "If I Can’t Love Her" theme concludes, the music shifts pace and tone - and that’s where this animation takes over.
From its stationary opening, the camera appears to break the fourth wall, drifting forward and descending into the forest below. As the music intensifies, the camera accelerates, racing through the snowy landscape as though following the path of a wolf pack in pursuit. The chase comes to a heart-pounding halt in a shadowy clearing, where the wolves corner Belle.
This sequence can work as a standalone projection (an exhilarating way to launch Act 2) or you can heighten the impact by incorporating silhouetted, choreographed wolves running in front of the screen, creating the illusion that they’re charging through the forest.
It’s a thrilling, unexpected moment of projection magic that will snap the audience back into the story, ignite their imaginations, and set the stage for the dramatic events of the second act.
You can hear this animation with the music if you play the Entr'act/Wolf Chase track from the Original Broadway Soundtrack and cue this animation at the 2:02 mark.
