Collection: The Wild Forest 1

The Wild Forest 1 is where Dorothy, Scarecrow and the Tin Man first come face to face with the Cowardly Lion, and the design leans into everything that moment needs: a forest that feels alive, mysterious, and just dangerous enough. The scene draws inspiration from the cool temperate rainforests of Victoria’s Otway Ranges (Australia), all towering ferns and permanently damp undergrowth, a forest that never quite dries out. Decomposing leaf litter blankets the forest floor, glowing toadstools punctuate the ferns, and blue fireflies drift through the undergrowth, giving the whole scene a quiet, magical pulse. Blue light filters through the canopy in the distance, as though daylight is fighting to break through, while warmer dappled light offers moments of comfort among the shadows.

This is the Lion’s home, so the forest has to hold back from true menace while still carrying real atmosphere, especially with an even darker forest still to come. The result is a scene built for both drama and wonder: forbidding enough to set the stakes, magical enough to remind the audience they’re still in Oz.
